Why the month matters in a town with real winters

In Lake City a system rarely fails on a convenient date. It quits on a 90-degree June afternoon with a thunderstorm building, or it’s found dead on the first 30-degree morning in December. The household needs a decision inside a day or two, and that’s what a payment plan is for: it separates the timing of the failure from the timing of the money. Cook’s arranges low monthly payments on new high-efficiency equipment, so the system that fits the house gets chosen instead of the one that fits this month’s checking balance.

Which rebate is yours depends on the meter

Columbia County is split between utilities, and the split changes the math.

  • FPL serves inside Lake City, Five Points and Watertown. Its A/C rebate program gives an instant credit on qualifying high-efficiency systems when the work is done by a contractor enrolled in the program. Whether Cook’s is enrolled is something to ask when you call. [[CONFIRM WITH JERRY]]
  • Clay Electric Cooperative serves most of the unincorporated county, from the edge of Mayfair to Fort White. Its Energy Smart program pays a heat-pump rebate directly to the member after purchase for systems meeting its efficiency minimum, and it offers energy-conservation loans. That money lands after the install, which matters when you set up a payment plan.

Every incentive that applies to your address goes on the estimate, not in a footnote.

The federal credit, in the past tense

Both federal residential energy credits that used to apply to this purchase, 25C for high-efficiency heating and cooling and 25D for geothermal, expired at the end of 2025 for any equipment put into service afterward. They won’t appear in your numbers.

What you’ll never see on the proposal

We don’t publish a lender, an APR or a term on this page because they change. What you’ll get is the full price, the payment, the rebate line and the efficiency rating, side by side, on one sheet, before you sign anything. Estimates on new systems are free.

Payment questions from Columbia County

Can I finance a system for a rental house I own in Lake City?

Yes. About four in ten homes inside the city are rentals, so this comes up constantly. The agreement is in the owner’s name, the tenant schedules the install, and the equipment stays with the property.

The Clay Electric rebate goes to me, not to you. How does that work with financing?

It arrives after the install as a payment to you as the member, so it isn’t deducted from the invoice. We’ll tell you the expected timing so you can plan around it.

Does the monthly payment cover duct repairs and a new thermostat, or only the equipment?

The financed amount is the whole quoted job. If sealing the belly duct under a manufactured home or replacing a failed attic run is part of making the new system work, it’s on the same estimate and the same plan.
